Ed Brown hopes his new discount Sunday supper and bar menu at EightyOne will lure locals battered by stock market and credit woes. Well aware that his $29 - $39 entrees are seen as “very expensive” even by well-heeled neighbors around the corner on Central Park West, the chef-owner with 29 backers to soothe will offer a $42 two course “Ode to Summer” prix fixe, beginning Friday the 13th from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the dining room, all night Sunday, and till closing at the bar. Expect to find Montauk flake crudo with apple broth, chilled cucumber soup with shrimp, avocado and Greek yogurt to start, then grilled short ribs, soft shell crabs or tomato-arugula risotto as possible entrees, to sip with a selection of rosés by the glass at $9. “I realize people want to be casual, easy on the bill, and quick before Shakespeare in the Park or just off the jitney…this is an easy alternative,” Brown says. “And Sunday should be an evening for families.”  The menu will change as summer harvest arrives. Another chapter in the Upper West Side restaurant revolution: Ed faces reality.
